Cannabis use may protect people from Stroke a study has found. The study conducted by The University of Texas found that using cannabis can improve oxygen and blood flow to the brain, reducing the risk of clots which can cause brain attacks.
According to researchers, regular cannabis users have the most effective blood brain flow, suggesting that the risk of a Stroke is lower in them. The study builds on previous research on cannabis and shows that cannabis has a positive effect states lead researcher Dr. Franchesca Fibley.
Speaking to the Daily Mail the lead author said that the study seeks to understand the possible neurophysiologic mechanisms that may drive cognitive changes.
The molecule THC in cannabis is already known to relax blood vessels and alter blood flow to the brain. The new study focused on how prolonged exposure to THC might affect the brains blood flow. This was done by analyzing the differences in regional blood-brain oxygenation areas and metabolism of chronic cannabis users. Fibley and her team concluded that cannabis users show higher global oxygen extraction fraction and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen compared to none users.
